Clam Hunt

The other day we were at a friends for dinner having clam pasta, and Jeremy was very interested to know that they had dug up all the clams themselves. So the next night Jeremy decided we should go on our own clam hunt, so he crafted these tools using old golf clubs & hangers and off we went.
and came back very successful! Dies & I with all our clams :)
I have to note I had the best luck, finding most the big ones! In case you ever find yourself wanting to snag your own clams here is what to do:
> wait until the tide is out
> look for small holes in the sand (usually in clumps)
> poke a stick or whatever device you have into the hole
> if you feel something hard, there is a clam hiding there!
> if not either the clam is very small, or there is no clam
> we found the bigger the air bubble, the bigger the clam
we decided to boil our clams vs baking them. To prepare the clams we left them in a bowl of salt water for an hour & rotated fresh salt water twice for 25 minutes. This is important to get all the sand & junk out of the clam. We then boiled the clams for no longer then 10 minutes.
As soon as they pop open you know they are finished!
And Viola! There you have it, fresh clams:
Jeremy said the clams were very delicious. I however do not enjoy the taste of clams, but thought snatching them was fun enough!
Clamming may be a new favorite activity for us down in Mexico. If you enjoy clams feel free to come join us anytime!

Day at the Races

On our way back from Utah to Mexico we stopped in San Diego to go to the horse races! It was a first for me & I was SO excited! We got there early enough to snag front row seats next to the track. We set down our chairs & people watched.
The fashion was unbelievably awesome! So fun to see all the ladies decked out in sun dressed & fancy hats. I knew this was the preferred attire but had only arrived from Utah that morning & didn't have the proper items on me :( So I just enjoyed looking around & picking out what I would & wouldn't wear!
They have a hat contest, & some people take it pretty seriously I guess. Check out these two outrageous hats below!

Most of our crew bailed last minute, but our friend Chris still came & was a lovely tour guide :)
Sunglasses under reading glasses.. funny!
The races finally started & I loved feeling the excitement & instant energy from everyone.
The horses seem SO fast in person!
I loved all their different colored bright uniforms & how small the jockeys all were.
This lil guy in the pink was my favorite. We didn't bet on anyone, but if I had he would have been my guy :)
The racing track.
Apparently watching the races can be rough for some people.. haha
Before every race they walk the horses around for everyone to get a better look. I loved this cute old lady petting this horse :)
Even though I was a little tired from waking up for an 8am flight, the day at the races was awesome! Lucky for us the day was mostly overcast with a slight breeze so it never got unbearably hot. We are already planning another day at the races later this month so I can officially get my racing outfit together & have the "real" experience!
Can't wait!

buddies at lagoon

Let me tell you a story about two cute little boys..

At first they weren't so sure about each other..
even though they are a year apart they realized not only did they both have large heads full of beautiful hair, but they were perfectly the same size!
they soon became best buddies..
they enjoyed doing all the same things, such as making silly faces
waving while on the rides
and looking at the camera when the other wasn't.
they even shared drinks
but most of all they loved the water, running & laughing they had a grand old time!
the end.

Ok seriously though my two nephews Truman & Atlas together at Lagoon were a riot! I was so excited to hear Amy was in town with the boys & we all decided to meet at Lagoon with Earl & Sandy as well. Since cute Teddy couldn't really go on any of the rides, he spent most his time with Grandma Sandy..
and Grandpa Earl..
Me & Amy. We always have fun together!
the boys loved having each other to go on the rides with
a favorite being the train & seeing the animals

the boys throwing dirt at me :)

Lunchtime!
Teddy just happy to be hanging out
Here the boys are on the bumper cars.
Saddest ride ever! Truman got stuck in the corner & was crying for us to help him, while Atlas just stayed in the corner the whole time :(
On the way out Atlas had to show Truman the water that he loves so much!
As you can see they had a blast!
Truman even made a new friend :)
 Truman
 Atlas
Boys + water = fun for hours!
Atlas was a little worn out when we got home :)
I love my nephews, it was so fun to see them together! I hope we can all get together again sometime.
